OPC Goes Viral: For One-Person Startups, the Most Suitable Business Might Be GEO

Over the past one or two years, if you pay attention to the startup scene, the internet industry, or the enterprise services sector, you may have noticed that two terms are appearing more and more frequently.

The first is OPC companies.

The second is the GEO business.

The popularity of GEO has been growing for nearly two years and has become a new trend in the internet and enterprise services industries. Major brands are beginning to adopt it, starting to manage their information presence and actively investing in GEO marketing.

OPC (One Person Company) refers to what is commonly known as a “one-person company.” In simple terms, it is a business model that can be operated by a single individual.

In the past, this model was not very mainstream because most businesses required teams, offices, and significant operating costs. However, with the development of internet tools, AI tools, and remote work, more and more people are realizing that many businesses can actually be run by just one person.

With a computer, one person, and one service, you can start a business.

At the same time, another concept has been gaining momentum rapidly: GEO optimization (Generative Engine Optimization).

Simply put, GEO focuses on getting brands, companies, and products mentioned, cited, or recommended in AI search results or large-model responses. In the past, companies competed for rankings in traditional search engines. Now, more and more businesses are paying attention to whether they are mentioned in AI-generated answers.

For example, imagine you are a manufacturer of automatic packaging machines. You want potential customers to see your brand when they search through AI models. When users ask questions such as:

  • “Recommended brands of fully automatic packaging machines”

  • “Packaging machine manufacturers in Shanghai”

  • “Recommend an automatic packaging machine manufacturer”

If your brand or product appears in the AI-generated answers, those searchers will see you directly. That is GEO in action.

When the OPC one-person company model meets the GEO business, it actually creates a very interesting combination.

If you closely observe industry changes over the past two years, you will notice a clear trend: more and more people from different industries are entering the GEO field.

Examples I’ve seen include:

  • SEO professionals transitioning into GEO

  • Advertising agencies beginning to sell GEO services

  • Enterprise service providers adding GEO to their offerings

  • Even people from completely unrelated industries starting to study GEO

  • More surprisingly, I have even seen someone who sells rodent poison starting to explore GEO, and a window-and-door business owner learning GEO as well

It may sound a bit absurd, but it is happening in reality. And it reveals an important point: the barrier to entry in this industry is not as high as many people think.

If you are currently considering starting a business and want to launch an OPC one-person company, then from a practical perspective, GEO may be a very suitable direction.

There are actually many reasons for this.
